September 2010
Queensland Sporting Hovercraft Club
A branch of the AUSTRALIAN HOVERCRAFT FEDERATION Inc (Vic)
Dear Air Cushion Vehicle enthusiast,
The Queensland branch of The Australian Hovercraft Federation held a planning meeting on
Tuesday, 21st September 2010, in Room 15 - Our Lady of Fatima RC primary school, 350 Mortimer Road
Acacia Ridge. This meeting was attended by:-
Phillip Audsley, Angus Kerr, Dale Baxter, Russ Pullen, Steven Odgaard and Rita Chaffey.
Cruise report - Queens Esplanade, Thorneside, Saturday 25th September 2010.
The September club cruise was held on Saturday 25th September 2010, launching from the boat
ramp in Queens Esplanade, Thorneside. Those attending the cruise were:-
Peter Venn - Turbo TP6 powered by a Subaru 1800 & Honda twin cylinder.
David Venn - Hoverjet powered by 2 Solo single cylinder 2 stroke engines.
Arthur Stead - Revtech Renegade powered by a 20hp Honda 2 cylinder.
Phillip Audsley came along to see us launch from the Queens Esplanade boat ramp opposite
Bates Drive and to issue a receipt for John Power, a new club member from Conway Beach.
Peter Venn had cruised the TP6 up from his waterfront residence with his 83 year old mother as
navigator, delivering her to Danny Venn's place a few hundred metres away from the boat ramp
before the start of the cruise. Steven Odgaard and Rita Chaffey travelled in the TP6 with Peter
Venn and the three craft made a stop at King Island to boil the billy, then headed for Hilliards
Creek.

The high tide meant there was nowhere at Hilliards Creek to stop, but with the calm seas and
nice weather, we decided to keep going and pulled up for lunch at the picnic area near the
lighthouse on Cleveland Point. Barramundi, snapper and cod were on the menu for lunch, along
with a healthy amount of chips. The three hovercraft parked at the top of the boat ramp caused
much excitement for the many motorists out on a day trip to the point, so many questions were
answered about the workings of these strange machines.
